My new baby arrived - WOYWW #199

My new baby has arrived!!!

Welcome friends and WOYWWers. As you can see, my craft desk is not crafty today. I designed all day Monday, cleaned up the desk Tuesday morning, and my new baby arrived in the afternoon. Going to make this short, because now I have to learn how to use her. Woohoo!! So excited!!

If you have no idea what WOYWW is, and would like more info, please pop over to Stamping Ground and our fearless leader Julia will explain all the fun. You can find all the intricate details here. Think of it as a legal way to nose around and see what other people are doing. It's tons of fun and you will meet gobs of people around the world. If you want to join in on the fun or just nose around, then check out this weeks post at:

What's So Good About Good Friday? Art Show

What's So Good About Good Friday?

That is the theme this year for an Art Show at Second Presbyterian Church
at 313 N. East Street, Bloomington, Illinois.

You can see the show at the following times:

11:30 am - 2 pm Viewing
5 pm - 7 pm Meet the Artists

Art will remain up through Easter and will be taken down Tuesday, April 2.

7pm - Everyone is invited to a Good Friday worship service immediately following the show.

The art show features Members of the Bloomington-Normal Art Circle, Local Downtown Artists including Angel Ambrose Fine Art Studios, and members of Second Presbyterian Church.

The worship service includes readings from Jesus' Passion, creative music elements and diminishing light throughout the service.

Light refreshments will be available.
Everyone is welcome!

The following are the two pieces I will be showing at the show:
(Lori's Happy Place watermark on web photos only, not on original art)

16x20 canvas called "No Greater Love"
* God's sacrifice shows us that He loved us and that we will never experience any greater love. On Good Friday, we remember that sacrifice, but we also remember that love. Good Friday is good because of that love.

12x12 canvas called "Thankfully"
* Good Friday is good to me because it wasn't the end of the story. Thankfully, it was just the beginning.

If you live locally, I hope you get a chance to come out to the show and check out all of the wonderful art at our annual "What's So Good About Good Friday? Show. Some of the art will be for sale. A price list can be requested any time during the show.

Artistcellar Design Team

So happy to finally share with all of my lovely friends!!!
This past week, I was asked to be on the Artistcellar Design Team.

I was very happy to be the first weekend guest blogger for Artistcellar back in February. You can see my first blog post here: http://artistcellar.com/wp/2013/02/first-weekend-guest-blogger/. I am really looking forward to being part of the full Artistcellar Design Team and introducing everyone to their amazing stencils and mixed media products.

Artistcellar designs and sells unique premium quality stencil designs.
If you’re a fan of using stencils in your artwork and are looking for some new and exciting designs, Artistcellar is for you. All Artistcellar stencils are precision laser cut from tough 10 mil polyester material and made in the USA.

Artistcellar's philosophy:
Art is not optional. Whether you're an art journaler, a mixed media artist, an art quilter – whatever your passion may be – you have a need to create. That's why we support your creative needs with hand-selected quality creative tools and supplies we've gotten our own nails dirty with.
Because art is not optional. You have to create. We understand.

WOYWW #197 - organizing

Welcome WOYWWers!!!

Not a whole lot going on right now. Just bought a few more Viewtainers to organize more of my little doodads. Absolutely love these containers. The all are spill proof, but have an easy squeezy pourable lid. Fabulous to throw in my bag if I am going to a class or crop. My kids and hubby even try and walk off with them to use for their own things.

Think of it as a legal way to nose around and see what other people are doing. It's tons of fun and you will meet gobs of people around the world. Girly Grunge!!

Those who know me well, know girly is not how I am usually described. Pink and frilly is just not me. Do I love pink? Absolutely, it's my favorite color. But my girly usually has a little edge to it. That's me!! Add some black or rough up the edges. That is my version of girly. A fabulous artist that I follow, Donna Salazar, calls it Girly Grunge. PERFECT!! Me to a T!! (Though the very sweet Donna spells it Girlie Grunge.)

I recently made a few online purchases to pick up a bunch of things I have never been able to find locally. My favorites were some fabulous Donna Salazar Designer Corrugated Embellies and stencils  from Want2Scrap.

For my second Design Team Project for Genuinely Jane Studios, I decided to pair all of my fun Donna Salazar products with a Genuinely Jane Studios Picket Fence album. This gorgeous piece is what I lovingly call my Girly Grunge Gate!!

Genuinely Jane Studios Meets Ruby Rock-it Nostalgia

The Genuinely Jane Studios website is LIVE. Woohoo!!!!!
(Please click on the name to come visit us at our brand new website)

A little about Genuinely Jane Studios:
Genuinely Jane Studios (GJS) manufactures small and medium sized mini-albums for scrapbooking, mixed media and altered arts in a variety of shapes and sizes. 100% American-made, the facility is located in rural, north-central Missouri and uses only the highest quality materials.

For my first GJS Design Team project, I used a 6x6 GJS Bracket Album and a Ruby Rock-It Nostalgia Collection Pack. I absolutely LOVE how it turned out!

The first thing I did was paint all the pages, front and back, of the entire album with Claudine Hellmuth Yellow Pastel Acrylic Paint.

I added some Claudine Hellmuth White Gesso to the front using a Donna Salazar's stencil and then started to plan the layout of the pages. The next step was to add MORE COLOR!! I ended up using multiple colors of paint and ink on each page. The full list of products used is at the bottom of this post. Here is how the entire album looked when finished:

Front cover

Page 1 and 2
I love how page 2 has "Admit one" and "Family" on the tickets. Plus the spinner can be turned to your particular families description. I placed my spinner at "Naughty". LOL. It fits them!!

Page 3 and 4
Each page carries the brick wall theme throughout the book. Absolutely love Donna Salazar's stencils. This brick one is perfect for mini albums.

Page 5 and 6
Lots of places throughout the album to add pictures and journal.
Back cover
The back cover and all of the edges were painted with Claudine Hellmuth Black Gesso. Each page has swirls added with a Uni-ball Signo White Gel Pen.

This was a fabulous and fun album to design. I have owned the Ruby Rock-it Nostalgia Collection Pack for a while and was just waiting for the perfect project to use it on. I found it!!! So much fun!!!

Here is the final list of all products used:
