Design Team Post at Artistcellar 4/23/13

Today, I am blogging over at Artistcellar.

I show the process behind changing a boring art journal cover into something unique and fun.

This cover uses fabulous stencils by Artistcellar and some AMAZING techniques.

My dear friend Tracy Weinzapfel, does a monthly challenge. This month she challenged us to design something that included 5 things that we want to be remembered for. I decided to use this cover for her challenge so I can constantly see those words when I am working in the journal. My words are Faith, Humor, Heart, Honesty and Creativity.

Have you ever thought about what you want to be remembered for as both a person AND an artist? As my friend challenged me, I challenge you. Think about it!! How do you want to be remembered?

Design Team Blog Post for Artistcellar - 4/16/2013

Today, I am doing my Tuesday Design Team blog post over at Artistcellar.

The motto over at Artistcellar:

ART IS NOT OPTIONAL.

Whether you're an art journaler, a mixed media artist, an art quilter – whatever your passion may be – you have a need to create. That's why we support your creative needs with hand-selected quality creative tools and supplies we've gotten our own nails dirty with.
Because art is not optional. You have to create. We understand.

Artistcellar has on online store that sells many art related products, but they are becoming famous for their unique and versatile stencils.

Head on over to the blog and check out my post, "Girl who thinks too much", and then check out all of their amazing stencils and art products. You will not be disappointed.

http://artistcellar.com/wp/2013/04/girl-who-thinks-too-much/

I hope and pray that project inspires everyone to create outside their comfort zone and NEVER say "I can't do that!"

Create everyday and have fun!!! ~ Lori

The great studio organization - skeletons and all

This past week, I decided the Studio needed a major overhaul!!! I was sick and tired of never being able to find something and sick of working on such an unorganized messy desk. Just plain hard to be creative when you are so frustrated.

This is the way my workdesk looked a week ago.

Just not enough space to actually work,
and too much stuff on that desk to actually find the things I really want.

So first things first - a CLEAN slate!! Or as an artist, I like blank canvas!!

I refused to take any pictures of the piles all over the floors as I got everything organized.
I am sure everyone can close their eye and picture that mess.

Now here is a picture of the new desk with only the essentials left in place.

I even had room for the extra lighting.
The bar across the desk is used to mount a camera to make instructional videos.
The white paint organizer on the right was purchased at Michael's a few years ago.
The Distress Ink Basket and the Stencil Basket on the left help me keep important items that I use each week when I do my Design Team blog post on Tuesdays over at Artistcellar.
The two tier basket in the middle was a new purchase.
Found it at Hobby Lobby for $20. It was previously $40 and on sale 50% off.
It holds Claudine Hellmuth paints and other odd shaped paints in the bottom.
The top is for my Genuinely Jane Studio Albums that I use
monthly as one of their honored Design Team members.

Here is where a lot of the other paints and items ended up.
This is a three tier metal tree from Hobby Lobby. Normally $80, but it was on sale for $40.
It holds paints I use a lot, so it is right to the right of the desk and within reach.

While organizing, I realized I needed a home for ALL of my fabulous Viewtainers.
They hold all of my tiny doo dadds and keep them from ending up all over the desk and floor.
Yes, my OCD requires that they are all RED. Deal with it!!
I buy mine at Menards or Home Depot locally, but they can also be purchased
directly online from Viewtainer. Fabulous, made in the USA, product that I could not live without.

I decided to go back to Hobby Lobby for another tree for the Viewtainers.
It worked out PERFECT for both my Viewtainers and twine.
I even have a bit of room to add a few more. Woohoo!!

Here they are in their new home!!

Here are a few more shots of the rest of the Studio.

Yes, that is a skull.
Don't they say everyone has a few skeletons in their closet?
Well, mine is an armoire. LOL
The skull is a plaster Halloween decoration that my hubby painted for me.
I am scared to store it with the rest of the decorations and have it break.
The rest of the bins are things I do not wish to get rid of, but don't use often.

More shots just playing around with the new camera and different lenses.
Yes, that is a big black square on the wall. Eventually, the top half
will be black and the bottom wainscot area white.
It was a test square to see if I liked it. I do!!!

Makeup sponges have their own drawer now. These are great to use on my Artistcellar or any manufacturer stencils. Less bleedage under the stencil if you use a sponge.

 One of my antique holders.

Golden paint heaven!!

 Happy twine and Viewtainers.

My favorites are the Deco Arts Gloss Enamels.
Need to use up the rest and replace with all of those.

Odd items that make me who I am.
The fabulous gears I bought from Genuinely Jane Studios.

 Creative Inspirations paints, powders, and glitter. Sparkly!!

So easy to design for Genuinely Jane Studios when all of your albums
are in their own little home. So pretty!!

My life list flower inspired by my lovely friend Tracy Weinzapfel.

Finished pieces, some of which are on sale at etsy:

A favorite item that was given to me by my father in law.
My OCD told me to go retake the picture again after I dusted it, but I am
being a big girl and refusing!!! LOL

Well, that is it. Sorry, it is so picture intensive, but I am proud of how it turned out.
And now that it is organized, it's time to get messy!!
Hope my space inspires you to get creative!!

WOYWW #201 - I'm late for a very important date!!!

I'm late!! I'm late, for a very important date!!! - Think White Rabbit in Alice In Wonderland

Can I blame it on that my birthday was yesterday? How about the fact that the kids had a late start day today so they were home for an extra hour this morning? Or maybe it was that half bottle of birthday wine? No, No!! You can never blame the wine!!

The desk is a leftover mess from painting on Monday. You can see the link below to the Artistcellar Design Team project that I created that day.

Alright, welcome everyone to my weekly What is on Your Workdesk Wednesday? I participate in this weekly snoop fest with a bunch of people from around the world. I decided to do a canvas for this little Blog Hopping adventure. The following is the evolution of my canvas and the evolution that each of us go through as artists. Enjoy!!

 I started off by spreading some Wendy Vecchi embossing paste
through a Artistcellar Romans Stencil onto a 6x6 primed canvas.

Love the texture on the canvas after it dried.

Next, I painted the entire canvas with Deco Arts Copper Metallic Acrylic Paint.

Needed more texture, so I decided the sides needed buttons.
I used white, but since I painted them in the next step, you could use any color.

After the buttons, I painted the sides and a little over the copper with Deco Arts Americana Gloss Enamel Indian Turquoise. Love the way the texture looked with these two colors together.

   Added some corrugated cardboard to the corner and then it needed a bit more blue,

My cute birdy was just one of the pages from the Genuinely Jane Studios

 I then used Timer Brown Stazon and some fabulous
100 Proof Press stamps to give the bird some pizazz.
I used the Biggest Squiggle, Circle of Dot with Empty Center, and Honeycomb Texture.

Added a simply black fuzzy brad to the hole to make a bird eye.

I inked the edges of the canvas with Tim Holtz Black Soot Distress Ink, splashed some white paint on the canvas, and then glued the bird, a doily, and a flower to the lower half of the canvas.

The saying "Inside all of us, patiently waiting, sits a tiny little adventurous bird" was done with a label maker and attached using tiny foam squares. The saying reminds me that our true self is patiently waiting inside all of us wanting to come out. We just need to set it free!!!

~~~~~~~~~~
Ok, now who wants to win something?
Just be a follower of my blog and leave a comment to this blog post.
WOYWW #200
Oh no!!!! It's Wednesday!!! That was my thought about 15 minutes ago. CRUD!!!
Yes, I lost a day somewhere and thought it was only Tuesday. Life has been too hectic lately. Prayers appreciated as my hubby and I come to terms with a disappointment. We know God has a bigger and better plan, but it is hard. I hope he hurries up on this plan because we are both on the verge of full blown depression.
Ok, for all my WOYWW friends - MY DESK!!! This is leftover mess from the ART Canvas on Monday. Apparently the cleaning fairy quit. Boogers!!
A few other tid bits for my WOYWW friends:
* The new camera is fabulous
* I still don't know how to use it well yet
* The cameras name is Tammy
* Doing a blog hop this weekend with a giveaway. Will ship to any country. Come back over the weekend.
* My birthday is next Tuesday, so birthday party for me on the WOYWW #201. See ya next week.
 If you have no idea what WOYWW is, and would like more info, please pop over to Stamping Ground and our fearless leader Julia will explain all the fun. You can find all the intricate details here. Think of it as a legal way to nose around and see what other people are doing. It's tons of fun and you will meet gobs of people around the world.
