Back to School Time. Woohoo!!!!

Yes, I am one of those Mom's that absolutely LOVE this time of year. I adore having more time with my kids in the summer, but the structure of returning back to school in the fall is always needed and appreciated.

I designed this book using a Genuinely Jane Studios Bus Album

Steps:
1) Paint 2 pages of the wood album yellow for the front and back cover.
2) Glue a piece of black cardstock to the back of the front cover to give it black window.
3) Ink edges of album with Tim Holtz Black Soot Distress Ink.
4) Cut pages to be used as journal pages for the interior pages. I used an assortment of white, yellow, and black pages. The can be used to showcase school pictures throughout the year or to journal stories from the year.
5) Glue half of a black zipper to front to mimic the black stripe on a bus.
6) Glue black letters to spell SCHOOL.
7) Write TIME! under SCHOOL with a black marker.
8) Add yellow and black twine to rings.

Just a simple little book to use throughout the year to showcase any child's special days at school this year.

Tromp l'oeil

A little different kind of creative today!!

Trompe l'oeil (French for deceive the eye), is an art technique that uses realistic imagery to create the optical illusion that depicted objects exist in three dimensions. Forced perspective is a comparable illusion in architecture. (Taken from Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trompe-l'oeil)

The pears on the shelf finally match the room. You can see how I did those here:

It is finally hung!!!
I bought this trompe l'oeil 10 years ago. Yes, I said YEARS! It was originally purchased when we were still living in our first house. It was going to hang in the half bath of the house we were building. Well, long story short, we never moved into that house. Instead, we purchased our current house. It has taken me 10 years to finally hang it. I've been busy!! (NOT)

I decided to mount it on hardboard and hang it with 8 3M velcro strips. This was done for two reasons - 1) We have textured walls, and I did not want to mess with the hassle of removing a textured area so it would lay flat. 2) After 10 years, I am not leaving this baby behind if we decide to move. It can now be removed easily and move with me, if I so choose to do so.

Now my plain, skinny, half bath has a little character. And it looks great with the built in shelves and upgraded mirror that the hubby installed. The mural can still be purchased at:
Wallpaper Connection.

Not bad for the kids first day back to school. Wonder what I can do tomorrow?

Just playing around

Today, the hubby cleaned out the garage. He was making himself some space to set up our compressor and air brush toys so he can paint and play. While he cleaned, I sat in a lawn chair and doodled with some Faber-Castell Gelatos and Montana Markers. Nothing fancy and time consuming. Just some quick flowers while I sat in the sun. It was fun not to stress or over think. I just played.

Hubby did a great job making a little more creative space for us. Here he is setting it up and making sure it was all working properly.

Now, as long as the weather cooperates, we have a space where we can both hang out together and create. Woohoo!!

Want and Need to get messy

UGH!!! I want to get messy!!
Unfortunately, the veggies in the garden want picked and the kids have two different doctors appointments today. Only a few more days until they are all back in school. I will miss them, but my house will be cleaner and I will have more time to do the things I really want to do. Until then, I just dream. LOL
